Salem Gets a New Look, Too

January 06, 2021

Those in the Salem area may have noticed a relatively significant change taking place at the south end of Riverfront Park. While Barry prefers to quietly serve in the background, foregoing recognition in favor of taking satisfaction in making a difference, our readers should know what he’s been up to.

In 2015, Barry had completed a term as the Downtown Rotary Club president, and, being a planner both by nature and profession, he suggested the club engage in a community project bigger than usual for its centennial in 2020. Shortly thereafter, he took on the role of co-chair for what is becoming the Gerry Frank | Salem Rotary Amphitheater.

Having volunteered thousands of hours over the past five years, this iconic cultural landmark will change the Salem skyline and welcome visitors for generations to come. Located on a former industrial four-acre parcel and stunning in its unique architecture, Barry and the Rotary club are closing in on completing a $4 million fundraising goal, and construction is scheduled to be completed in June of 2021.

For his volunteer efforts, Barry was recently recognized by Salem’s Mayor and City Council with the “City of Salem Spirit Award.” We look forward to enjoying this venue with you in 2021 and beyond.
